TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon Launches PHLY Cup Race for Pro Athletes
  • Philadelphia Insurance Companies joins as the presenting sponsor of TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon and title sponsor of the PHLY Cup
  • Pro triathletes will compete for $25,000 total prize purse; World-class triathlete Andy Potts to participate in Olympic distance event; Registration is available at TriRock.com

Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI), the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company, today announced the new PHLY Cup pro division of the TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon, with title sponsor Johnson & Johnson and presenting sponsor Philadelphia Insurance Companies.

Launched in partnership with Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY), the PHLY Cup will offer pro triathletes the chance to compete in the Olympic distance for a prize purse totaling $25,000. The event will take place over the weekend of June 22 and 23, with world-class triathlete Andy Potts headlining the Olympic distance race, among other notable pros.

“The PHLY Cup is an exciting component for this event and compliments the new energy of the TriRock Philadelphia,” shared Philadelphia Insurance Companies President and CEO Bob O’Leary.  “We’re excited to support one of the marquee triathlon events in the country – right in our home town – and thrilled to be a sponsor of this event for the eighth consecutive year.”

As part of Andy’s participation at TriRock Philadelphia, he is offering 20 lucky participants a special VIP opportunity at the race.  All participants—from first timers to seasoned age groupers—who register during the month of April for the Olympic distance will have the opportunity to be entered into the Andy Potts Sweepstakes. Twenty lucky athletes will receive prizes from local race sponsors including Asics shoe certificates, TYR bags, PowerBar nutrition packages and one lucky winner will receive a Kestrel triathlon bike for the 2013 season. Potts will also host a pre-race lunch with a session on race tips.

The 9th annual event features three days of activities including a Multi-Sport Expo and a Sprint distance race at 7:30 am on Saturday, June 22. TriRock Philadelphia culminates with an Olympic distance event at 6:30 am on Sunday, June 23, which will welcome some of the best pro triathletes in the country. Fairmount Park will host the scenic and challenging race and fun, family atmosphere, with a finish line concert taking place on both days of the event. The start, finish and transition areas will be located just off of Martin Luther King Drive, near the base of Black Road.

Named a top-five triathlon in the United States by Outside Magazine and lauded as one of the top big city triathlons by Inside Triathlon Magazine, TriRock Philadelphia will provide participants with a finisher’s medal, technical t-shirt, red carpet finish, post-race breakfast and beer garden. Participants will pick up race packets at the two-day Expo held Friday and Saturday of event weekend.

With a total prize purse of $25,000 (split evenly between the men and women top finishers), the PHLY Cup winner breakdown for the men’s and women’s division is as follows:

  • Winner – $6,000
  • Runner-up – $3,500
  • 3rd place – $1,500
  • 4th place – $1,000
  • 5th place – $500
