ASBURY PARK, July 15, 2014 – Almost two years later, thousands of families in the tri-state area, including the Jersey Shore, are still struggling to rebuild from Hurricane Sandy. Race2Rebuild, an endurance charity racing program that supports disaster relief projects, will continue to assist this cause by acting as the new official charity of the 2nd annual TriRock Asbury Park Triathlon on Sunday, August 24.

“We are tremendously grateful to be the official charity of TriRock Asbury Park Triathlon, especially since thousands of families feel forgotten and are still struggling to get home after Hurricane Sandy,” said Sarah Hartmann, President, Race2Rebuild. “Racing and volunteering with Race2Rebuild is a tangible way for people to get involved and helps to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods still in need following the disaster.”

Participants in the Sprint and Olympic races as well as relay teams have the opportunity to race for the cause by joining Race2Rebuild’s TEAM 1 and raising funds for disaster relief efforts. Participants who raise a minimum of $250 receive a custom gear package from Race2Rebuild sponsors, with special prizes for top fundraisers on race day. Additionally, Race2Rebuild sponsor JackRabbit Sports will host an exclusive course preview event at their Upper East Side location on August 13. Following the race, athletes can meet the family they support, volunteer with national nonprofit Rebuilding Together and help rebuild their home. Volunteers and spectators can also get involved by making a contribution to help a local family come home.

“Thanks to relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy, our inaugural race last year was able to finish on the famous boardwalk and we’re thrilled to partner with an organization deeply committed to  the ongoing recovery of the community,” said Molly Quinn, VP of TriRock Triathlon Series. “In partnership with Race2Rebuild, we look forward to helping bring even more families home after the devastating hurricane two years ago.”

In its inaugural year, Race2Rebuild raised funds to rebuild homes that were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy through racing two New York City area races, and later had the opportunity to volunteer with Rebuilding Together to rebuild homes. Now in its second year, Race2Rebuild has expanded its partnerships with races, including TriRock Asbury Park Triathlon, to continue fundraising for Rebuilding Together projects to help rebuild homes that were destroyed in natural disasters.

TriRock Asbury Park features a beach start with an ocean swim, flat and fast bike course and finishes with a run on the famous Asbury Park boardwalk. New to the race this year, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy more beach and boardwalk by racing the Olympic distance. Participants will be treated to a finish line festival with a beer garden, free breakfast, red carpet finish and a post-race concert.

    2014 TriRock Philadelphia Olympic

Philadelphia, PA – June 22, 2014 – More than 3,000 participants swam, biked, ran and rocked around Fairmount Park today at the 10th annual Johnson & Johnson TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon presented by Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY). The event featured a Sprint distance race on Saturday and an Olympic distance on Sunday, which welcomed a lineup of world-renowned professional triathletes. Cameron Dye claimed his third-straight Philadelphia victory, while Alicia Kaye once again showed her strength at the distance with a dominant win.

Dye came out of the 1.5K swim on the heels of Andy Potts in 16:19, dominated the 40K bike in 55:08 and then held on with a solid 35:05 10K run. He crossed the finish line in 1:48:06. Potts finished second to Dye for the third year in a row, crossing at 1:49:41. USA Triathlon collegiate champion 20-year-old Rudy Von Berg rounded out the top three, posting a fast 33:51 run split on his way to the podium finish in 1:49:53.

Sara McLarty opened the women’s race with a dominant swim performance. Catherine Jameson was next out of the swim in 17:38, and Kaye followed her closely at 17:42. Like Dye, Kaye used her strength on the bike to open up a lead before the second transition. Kaye followed her race-best bike split (1:02:14) with a race-best run split (37:47), giving her the 1:59:36 victory. Kaye said Kaye said she felt like she had unfinished business on this course because last year she and 17 other pros were disqualified after unintentionally cutting the swim course.

McLarty easily held onto second, crossing at 2:03:59. American Laurel Wassner had a solid all-around day to finish in third at 2:06:00, while her twin sister Rebeccah finished fifth.

The pros weren’t the only ones on the field, Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky also raced in the Sprint Aquabike on Saturday. Over 500 Johnson & Johnson employees participated over race weekend, raising more than $415,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Funds raised at last year’s race directly supported treatment advances of T Cell Therapy, which represents a new breakthrough approach within cancer treatment.

The 10th annual event featured three days of activities including a Multi-Sport Expo beginning on Friday, June 20 and a Sprint distance on Saturday, June 21, culminating with an Olympic distance event on Sunday, June 22. Fairmount Park hosted the scenic and challenging race with a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, and a finish line concert on both days of the event.

  • 06-23-2013_Tri_Rock_Philly_2144PHILADELPHIA, PA—June 12, 2014 – The Johnson & Johnson TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon presented by Philadelphia Insurance Companies is returning for the 10th year on June 21 and 22. One of the East Coast’s marquee triathlons will welcome some of the top triathletes in the world for its 10th anniversary to compete for the PHLY Cup and the $25,000 prize purse.

Americans Andy Potts and Cameron Dye have been battling for first at TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon over the past few years, and they’ll once again face off on June 22. Potts won the race in 2011, but Dye has had the upper hand the last two years. Potts, a Philadelphia-native who is just coming off a big win at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, finished less than a minute behind Dye in second place at TriRock Philadelphia in 2012 and 2013.

Participants can be entered to win Breakfast with Andy Potts on Saturday, June 21 and receive $20 off the race entry fee by registering for the Olympic distance with code: 5150. Additionally, the first 20 people to register for the Olympic race with code: REED will be offered a chance to join Matty Reed on Saturday, June 21 for a short 5K Shake Out Run.

“We’re elated to have a star-studded professional field featuring so many of America’s top triathletes coming to the City of Brotherly Love to compete for PHLY Cup title as we celebrate our milestone 10th anniversary event,” said Molly Quinn, VP of TriRock Triathlon Series. “Cam Dye, Andy Potts and the rest of the field are going to produce two exciting races and a well-earned title. We’ve enjoyed seeing the growth of the elite field this year as the number of pros participating nearly doubled.”

Also vying for a place on the PHLY Cup podium will be 2008 Olympian Matty Reed (USA), 2014 CapTexTri runner-up Ben Collins (USA), 2014 Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship runner-up Paul Matthews (AUS) and 2009 Philadelphia winner David Thompson (USA). Two-time Ironman world champion Chris McCormack will also be competing in Saturday’s sprint race.

In the women’s race, American Alicia Kaye—who was unstoppable at non-drafting short-course races in 2013—is the favorite to take the title. Her biggest competition will come from Radka Vodickova, who has had a stellar start to the year with wins at Challenge Batemans Bay, Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya, Ironman 70.3 St. Croix and Rev3 Knoxville.

Rebeccah Wassner, a three-time New York City Triathlon winner and record holder on the Philadelphia and Columbia Triathlon courses, will also return to TriRock Philadelphia this year. Additionally, Sara McLarty, columnist for Triathlete magazine, is widely recognized as one of the fastest swimmers in triathlon and will put the heat on her competition on the swim course.

Pro triathletes will have the chance to compete in the PHLY Cup pro division, which launched in partnership with Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY). The PHLY Cup will evenly split a prize purse totaling $25,000 between the men and women top finishers in the Olympic distance.

TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon will feature a Sprint distance race at 7:30 am on Saturday, June 21 and an Olympic distance race at 6:30 am on Sunday, June 22.  The weekend celebration also includes a multisport expo and kids’ fun run. Like all TriRock events, Philadelphia participants will be treated to music along the course, a finisher’s medal, technical t-shirt, red carpet finish, post-race breakfast and beer garden.

There are still slots open for age-groupers to compete in both the sprint and Olympic races, with online registration closing on Sunday, June 15.  For more information about the TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon or to register for the event, visit TriRockSeries.com.
